Yesterday during our team meeting, the VP for IT gave us a history lesson about IT, then he posed an interesting question stemming from Gartner writer Steve Prentice. With the rapidly changing use of IT resources both technological and human, how will local IT shops compete? End users are becoming more savvy since technology is used throughout their daily lives, they don't necessarily need the "Geek Squad" to solve their technological issues. Since these users are so savvy, they are more apted to seek outside resources, if you can't offer them the resources they need in a timely and easy to use nature. With that said, how will the current IT infrastructure change in the next 5 to 10 years? How can we better serve our customers with the rapidly changing technological culture? Where do we as IT professionals need to focus our career development for the future?
All are very interesting questions that I don't know the answer to.
Still thinking....
